    Betta Injured While Vacuuming

OK thanks for the advice and your own personal experience. I am beginning to wonder myself is he isn't going to heal or if it's going to be a very long process but at least otherwise he seems ok.

    Betta Injured While Vacuuming

So my betta got injured. See the attached pics. He's alone in a 6.5 gallon tank. I've kept fish and bettas for years and cured fin rot before but I can't cure this case. I'm at a loss and need advice. I got him in December 2020 and I assume he's around 9 to 12 months old now. He was happy and...

Betta clamped fins - don't know what else to do

Thanks. She is the only fish in the tank. Also, about 2 months ago I removed all plastic plants in case she was cutting herself on them. Now I only have smooth aquarium safe rocks as hiding spaces.

Betta clamped fins - don't know what else to do

I do have a heater. I've used 2 different thermometers to check the temp - it's 80 degrees. I do clean out, by vacuuming or using a turkey bastor, any uneaten food or waste.

Betta clamped fins - don't know what else to do

I'm not a new fishkeeper, but by no means an expert either. My betta, had her for 6 months, probably a year old, has had a mild fin rot for 2 months that I haven't been able to fully heal. Tried upping water changes, salt, antiobiotics, never fully healed. Now she has clamped fins (see pic). The...

Can Salt affect API ammonia test reading?

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, there is always a very slight green color, tap and aquarium, never as yellow as the 0 on the api card. But the green is ever so slightly darker for the aquarium water vs tap. At most, it's 0.25, which I know still isn't good. I'm going to do a gravel (sand) vacuum...

Can Salt affect API ammonia test reading?

Short question, can aquarium salt affect the reading of ammonia using the API liquid master test kit? Background: I have a guppy tank that is cycled, not overstocked or overfed, well maintained and regular water changes and the fish are doing very well but my ammonia readings for the tank are...

Fishless cycle completed - no fish - now a nitrIte spike?

That is good to know because I think everyone worries after completing the cycle and changing water, how long do I have to get fish in the tank and if the tank isn't fully stocked will the bacteria die. I think most agree the bacteria will not die, at least not anytime soon.

Fishless cycle completed - no fish - now a nitrIte spike?

Thanks for the response. I added ammonia whenever it dropped below 0.5ppm, which for the past 8 or 9 days was every 24 hours. You hear different things, some people swear that no ammonia or nitrite spike will interfere with the cycle and others say the exact opposite. I was following this page -...

Fishless cycle completed - no fish - now a nitrIte spike?

No, I don't not have any live plants.

Fishless cycle completed - no fish - now a nitrIte spike?

Well, I'm worried this could be my problem. Found this on another forum: Well, when I tested earlier and my wife and I both thought the cycle was complete - the test tube turned purple first (toxic) but by the required 5 min mark it was blue (safe) ***this is important. Well, I found this: "The...

Fishless cycle completed - no fish - now a nitrIte spike?

This question is in regards to nitrItes, not nitrAtes. Background: I fishless cycled my tank, using Ace Hardware Ammonia and it seemed to go pretty well and normal. Cycle completed today at noon. I kept the ammonia levels at 3ppm at all times, ammonia hit 0 on day 24, nitrIte showed up on day...

Fishless Cycle is stalled. Is this normal?

I don't plan on adding fish. I have added API Quickstart the first week and Seachem Stability (both brands of beneficial bacteria) for the past couple days. I just don't know why the ammonia dropped in the first 4 days and hasn't gone down any in the past 17 days. Everything I read about...

Fishless Cycle is stalled. Is this normal?

My fishless cycle is stalled and I just need to know if this is normal or if I need to do something? I know patience is the hardest part of cycling a tank. I'm 3 weeks into fishless cycling this tank and since day 4 (17 days ago) the ammonia hasn't budged, while everything else has stayed...

Help- FishLESS Cycle - Ammonia keeps increasing

I think this is a good point. My two previous 1.5ppm readings (API Masterkit) were taken Sunday and Tuesday morning using daylight to read. My 2.0ppm reading was Wednesday night using a lamp to read. That could be the difference. I started my dosage at 3ppm ammonia and it dropped to 2 on day...

Help- FishLESS Cycle - Ammonia keeps increasing

OK thanks for the advice. There is no driftwood or real plants in the tank. I'm using CaribSea Super Naturals Premium Aquarium Substrate sand (for freshwater, ph neutral). I didn't think the sand was live sand or would contain anything that could be breaking down into ammonia. I did start the...

Help- FishLESS Cycle - Ammonia keeps increasing

I'm doing my first fishLESS cycle, using 10% janitorial ammonia from Ace Hardware. I'm on day 12 of my cycle and my Ammonia levels keep increasing but I'm not redosing the tank. Other levels, nitrIte (0), nitrAte (0) and PH (7.6) haven't changed since the cycle began but my Ammonia went from...
