    What The Heck Happened?!

Yep yep. Liquid tests have bottles that seal well, whereas the test strips are just in a common plastic bottle and the caps on them don't seal as well. Plus the paper strips have the testing chemical in them and once it's been exposed to the air enough the viability of the test begins to be...

One Of My Fish Has Disappeared

Try Feng Shui (sp?) therapy? :shifty: No, seriously though, seperating out the most aggresive female may help out a lot. Rearranging the plants/ornaments is also a good idea as was stated above. If all else fails, chalk this group up to needing serious mental therapy :shifty: .

    Smelly Tank

I agree. I do a 10-15% water change every two-three days as a rule because I have fry almost constantly and prefer to make sure the water is as fresh as possible for them.

    What The Heck Happened?!

I use test strips too and have never had a problem with them. I use the Quick Dip version from Jungle Labs. I can say though that I don't keep mine if they've been open for more than a month. Once that point hits I throw them away because of the long term air exposure.

    Baby Bettas

That settles it. I am forcing my husband to check out your stands. The place we are moving to is an old grocery store/laundromat with concrete floors (carpeted now in all but what i want for the fish room) and was renovated into a beautiful 3 BDR/ 2 bath apartment setup. The "fish room" is...

    Newbie Questions....!

AquaSafe is good stuff ;) As for over doing it, there have been plenty of times I've overdone mine a little. I haven't had any adverse effects, even in my fry tanks, and it's not surprising considering it's a chemical that takes the bad things OUT of the water rather than being bad itself :)...

5 Gallon Tank With Too Many Fish!

If you do a cycle WITH fish included you won't need the pure ammonia :) Danios are a hardier species and usually do well in a tank cycling. Since you can't get ahold of pure ammonia a fish included cycle is the way you'll likely have to go as I don't know of any other way to get the ammonia...

    Cloudy Water Help!

Oh heaven, yes, I'd definately return the fish to them and find a different LFS to buy from as this one sounds like our local Walmart :/ They're more concerned with making money than making sure the fish are going to be in the right environment and that's not the way to run an LFS...

    Cloudy Water Help!

For starters the tank is too small for the fish. Goldfish require a LOT of room for each fish, though most LFS don't bother to tell people that :/ . They are also VERY messy lol. Also, I'm guessing you did a fishless cycle, though two weeks isn't enough time for the tank to properly finish a...

    Sneaking Fish On A Plane...

*falls over and dies* I just....couldn't lol. I don't mind rats but....*shivers uncontrollably*....nope. Not me said the blind man, lol.

    My Water Stats

Are there any plants in the tank? I ask because plants can help quite a bit to level out new tanks (especially java moss). The ammonia is a bit higher than I'd like with a fish inclusive cycle, but that too will be helped by your water change. Is there any way you can get ahold of some mature...

5 Gallon Tank With Too Many Fish!

No need to apologize. Being mislead by an LFS isn't a fun thing to experience :( The fact that you are trying to fix things is what counts. You wouldn't be able to fit many fish in the 3 gallon, and since it's not already set up you will have alot of the same problems since it won't be...

    Baby Bettas

LOL my husband takes a passive aggresive role in our fishkeeping. He says no to anymore new tanks/fish/etc., yet if he finds me seperating a male away on it's own we're off to the LFS to find it a girlfriend because "It's not right to make a guy suffer like that." . He has a love/hate...

    What Kind Of Rocks?

You can find polished river rocks at Walmart fairly cheap. They come in a plastic mesh baggie which is really handy if you want to create moss covered rocks using some java moss :D Alot of people use slate rock also, though I haven't gotten into that setup as yet.

    Hypothetical Breeding Question

Inbreeding happens just as much in the wild as in an uncontrolled tank (though it's much more likely in a tank). Inbreeding generally takes a few generations to have any real detrimental effects except in odd cases. As long as your female isn't already inbred by a few generations, then the fry...
