cheers for the replies, i'm looking for a secondary tank at the moment, just to keep a smaller amount of fish. I didn't manage to get the female in the breeding trap prior to her givin birth, but caught the fry hiding under the driftwood so i put it in the breeding trap, seems lonely in there...

its a platy, its bout the length of 6mm. reason i'm cautious is that wen i last had fry the got nipped at and didn't last more than a week. but then again my tank set up was only a few weeks old.

i've just got my second set of fry in my tank since i set it up in january. i've always had 2 female platies and a male. but its taken almost 6 months for me to get my second lot of fry. was expecting atleast one batch atleast every 2 months but nothing till this sunday. my only guess on why...

went down to the my local aquatics center, and they've also suggested that it is likely that they loach bit them, but only after they died. they've replaced my swordtails also as they say that the change in water may have affected they're behaviour and aided in the neon's getting killing. added...

just brought 7 new fish on the weekend (sunday) and since then someone's eating my small neons. previously i've had my other medium neons for bout a month. yesterday i added 4 small neon's, 2 swordtails and a guppy. Not sure which one is attacking them, but its gotta be either the swordtails...

i had a similar problem, but the fish had lodged itself between the gap on the filter and the thermometer lucky didn't die but not sure how long it was there for, spent about a day looking for it, thought i'd taken it out when i was taking out the excess food.

yeah i've since added a few plastic ones to the tank, don't actually look bad for a an ebay jobby. might get 1or 2 real ones and i think i should be done, but i'm off to get some more fish for the tank, yippee!

whats the rules with lighting, i've got a standard tube light on my tank, but just wondered how long shud they be on for each day at most?

thanks for the info, may just get more plastic ones, but i'm keen on getting some tall plants (atleast 14" high)to hide my filters behind on each side of the tank. any suggestions on whats worth getting?
