Hi peeps, im looking into getting an extrnal filter for my 90ltr tank, but i want to be able to control the outlet flow rate as i dont want my fish and plants blasted to one side of my tank! Either the tetratec ex600 or Eheim ecco 2232 i was looking at. Neil

Mine was like it for about 2 weeks, then the past 3 days the colour didnt fade, and then this morning hey presto!! My nitrates were 10 all the way up till this morning so hang on in there :good:

Yep, that one on the right is how mine went. Good news for me today tho as the nitrites was at 0 this morning.

Yeah im guessing so, i started off with adding way to much ammonia and i think this made the nitrites go totaly mad. I skipped adding the ammoina for a day and now the nitrite test tube just stays at the same colour and doesnt fade. My nitrates are still 10 though, they wont seem to get any...

This bluey green colour your on about, does it go from the dark purple and gradualy fade? If so mine was doing that and i think it because there is so much nitrite that the test doesnt read it properly.

Thanks for all the help, I think what is making me abit worried is the fact that the nitrite test tube colour fades from a dark purple to a very light colour as aposed from light to dark. I have emailed API though to see what they say.

Thanks guys. Are these external filters quiet? I currently have a fluval 3 underwater filter which is quite quiet. It will also be stored underneath the tank in a cupboard so im guessing that will help with the noise abit.

What would be the best external filter for a 90 ltr tank? I have an aqua one ar620 tank and i would have to modify the hood to fit the in/out flow pipes through. Thanks Neil

The ammonia is being processed but the nitrites are stuck on 5, well actually the nitrite test fades down to a blue colour once its been left for 5 mins or so. I dont understand whats going on. I am seeding the tank with some substrate form another tank, could this be effecting anything?

Iv just read that post and im getting the oposite, if i dont shake the second bottle i get a high result and if i do it get a low one. Iv just brought a brand new kit and it still gives me the same resluts so it cant be that its out of date or anything. I tried diluting some water by 50 % and...

Its the API liquid kit, I shake the second bottle like mad. I tryed it without shaking and did get diffrent results - it went dark red. By dilouting tests do you mean take some water from the tank and diloute it with some tap water?(dechlorinated of course!) Neil

Im on day 18 of a fishless cycle, ammonia is dropping to 0 in less than 24 hours, nitrite is 5 but my nitrate has not risen at all through the whole cycle. Its currently at 10 and this is the same as my tapwater. Iv been making the ammonia upto about 4ppm each day. Thanks Neil

The drops from the bottle turn purple staright away in the test tube, after shaking the test tube its still purple but after a few minutes the colour gradualy gets lighter. The test kit is about 6 months old at the most.
