tbh I have no experience with buying separate filters as I have always had ones that come with the tank, so I cannot give any advise on what makes are best etc.. hopefully someone might comment with their recommendations. Its good that you have a backup plan, as its purely down to luck with Bettas, but as it is in a tank with barbs already - you might have a docile one. Does it look like it has been nipped much? Look forward to the photos.
