what substraight are you using as some sands can effect water perameters? what is the KH of your water? if your Kh is low the tiniest thing could alter or even crash the ph. There is quite an informative section on water perameters and ph on here somewhere.

I regularly feed my malawi cichlids with brine shrimp and hikari gold and staple with no problems i always try to give them a varied diet. There are other foods that can be given such as flakes, sticks, dried foods etc.

The weight of a bath rests on 4 small feet where as a good aquarium cabinet covers the same area as the tank therefore distributing the weight better than a bath.
