I have been soaking some driftwood in a ten gallon tank in my back yard...
Ā
Well I noticed iĀ had a million mosquito larva in the water. Since it hasn't been changed in like a week...
Ā
Well... I just fed my guppies and Betta wild, live mosquito larva...
Ā
Good idea... Or bad idea?

Good! The larvae have been in water you can trust so cannot be fresher, yum yum

ha. my Betta keeps looking at me now. He loved them.
Ā
I may have lost a guppy fry or two in all the commotion... They normally leave them alone. But some of the mosquito larva were bigger than they were! I didn't see any get eaten... But I saw several being chased...
Ā
I put the rest in a bag in the freezer... We will see if they like them frozen as much as alive!

A really good idea, I often harvest mozzie wrigglers from tubs of water from my own yard. And if wood has been soaking in the water I also end up with bloodworms. The only caution I would warn is make sure that nothing like pesticides or herbicides have got into the water from wind drift.
