It looks to be a slightly stressed Opaline Gourami, but can also be considered a Three Spot.
The dorsal fin is very short in the length so it is probably a Female :good:

ok thanks fifefish
why would it seem slightly stressed to you?

these piks where taken when i first got him/her when it was in a 2 foot tank with 2 platies and three guppies would that be why?

because i did notice it became very aggresive a week or more after these photos so i went an seeked a larger tank and is know in a 3 foot tank on its own at moment

i have just been looking around on the internet and came across a lavender gourami on this site

whish states

Trichogaster trichopterus "Lavender Gourami"
The Lavender Gourami is a color variant of the long popular Blue or Three-Spot Gourami. They have attractive dusky purple coloration.

which seems to be about right for the colouring of my gourami not the opaline as you stated above?

but as a newbie i stand to be corrected

if anyone else would like to try and shed some light on this please i would be very much grateful
