No. I just fill the short section of hose with water (about a 5 foot length) then attach it to the long hose, while holding my finger over the end of the short hose end. Then drop the connection into a bucket - in case of leaks - and voila instant syphon with no pump. If that doesn't work for you, a pump would certainly work.

By the way what is your tank size?
Sorry if I missed it

ok i will try to buy this equipment this week. should make life a lot easier.

Wether you can use your hot water depends if you have a hot water storage cylinder (big round insulated tank in the airing cupboard) or a combi boiler. A combi boiler heats the water as it is used and should be safe to drink and use for fish.

i have a storage tank in my airing cupboard and i still use it from the hot water tap. My fish are ok, and i am too :)

got a python (or equivalent) so water changes and cleaning should be much easier. took my water to a reputable aquarium specialist and the tests were all good. looks like my tank is well into the cycle. no ammonia and the right levels of everything else. have not done a water change yet this week (plan to do one tommorow) and fish are happy as larry. got a couple of new plants for their tank and they are merrily nibbling away and hiding in them. happy happy fish. yay:)

Congrats. I'd recommend investing in your own test kit for the future.
