Lol, I was thinking the same. very calculated indeed, can you show your workings please?

I have noticed a few times that there is no blue names online, maybe 15.8999999999991% of the time?

This bit tizer ;)

Until you have moderated a forum you have no idea how time consuming and frustrating it can be, with very little thanks or reward.

I did it on a far far smaller forum than this and once you have done all the boring behind the scenes crap, answering the mundane stuff (such as a lot of chit chat) is hard work. Plus as stated, there is such a big member base here that it will have been answered already.

I would wager that most mods have a speciality, be it plants, marine, oddballs or whatever, that is where you will see them impart their knowledge rather than just 'moderating'.

I stopped in the end as I get frustrated with having to sit on the fence and not tell people what I thought of them eg The mods in this thread won't be able to say that Noah is making a twunt of himself :)

This forum is well moderated, believe me, I frequent quite a few over a diverse range of subject matters, considering the number of people here, the relatively large amount of young members, they do very well.

Where they miss things there are grumpy older members such as myself to give people a clip round the ear.

As you were

I moderated a tv channel chat room several years ago, so I know it isn't an easy job.
Adding my two pennysworth, I think the mods here do a great job, they're not intrusive at all & are happy to join in a discussion, & are never heavy handed.
Don't forget, they do this in their own time to keep the forum running smoothly

probably nothing to do with this thread, but i was wondering if you are inactive on the forum for about a year would you have to re-register?

No. As long as you can remember your login details then you can come back :good:

I don't understand what harm a few extra mods would do?

1) It isn't just as easy as simply 'promoting' people. They have to be a good fit with the group that already exists

2) and ever hear the expression 'too many cooks spoil the soup'? I think it is applicable here.

I dont think number 2 is really applicable here really, seeing a mod post is a little bit of a rare occurance, they soon rear their heads when people question the running of the forum though. ;)

I would have though you knew better Tizer. as already stated. most of the mods job is behind the scenes. and they post a lot more than you give them credit for
bit harsh??

saying a mods post is a rare occurrence is a little harsh as well. A large post count means nothing really. Have a look in the marine section, the planted section, and other specialist sections, there are plenty of mod posts. Just because we are not all posting in the Tropical chit chat, it doesn't mean the mods don't post.
If thats the case, then maybe more moderators need to post in that section, because it seems one of the most frequently posted in section
as state above. what has the number of posts got to do with anything?
for the most part, our experts (if there are any left) are not mods. its a quite different job.
not that our EXPERTS like to be called so, that is.
those who do (like to be called EXPERTS) more often then not, aren't. but think they are.

as the MODs are a team. I would have thought its more important that they fit in with the current team.
apart from the lack of posting (which is a none problem). just what problems are our mods having?

incidentally QWERTY diarrhoea, does not mean the poster reads all the post. it simply meant they post a lot. again 2 different things.
Can i ask what the underlined has "got to do with anything"?

unless you can grasp that. you cant have, meaningful, input into this thread, well, as its diverted, anyway.

Fish (expert?) and moderation (export?) are two entirely different things.
