Here's my Schistura balteata, affectionately known as 'Sumo';

I have plenty of bogwood, rocks, and plants in my tank, but yesterday I noticed him doing something I've never seen before (and I use the word 'him' casually - anyone know how to sex these lovely fish?).

He seems to be digging. Particularly under a piece of bogwood and a rock forming part of my rock cave. He digs a hole big enough to crawl into, then does so - he's not tired, as this is the middle of the day!

We have a small tadpole snail infestation at the moment, but I'm 100% sure he's not digging for them, as I've seen him pick one up, and drop it shortly thereafter - an acquired taste, methinks?

I wasn't sure whether or not it's a kind of breeding behaviour. Very strange, as he just suddenly started doing it - not to mention he's ruining my careful aquascape with his piles of sand everywhere!

Ben.
