Ah, but what she hasn't told you is that she has already seen two lions that she badly wants  and must admit they were very pretty -will leave Trod to tell you as I have not a clue what they are, except of course that they were pretty lions

They were lovely lions, one was a white Pterois antennata, I have never seen a white one before so this will definately be on my list  the other was a red Dendrochirus zebra. they looked stunning together. I was very tempted to ask the shop to hold them for me but I knew if I did that, it would make me rush the set up of the tank, to get them in quick, and I don't want to do that so I reluctantly walked away :(

Right on to the questions
Been looking at powerheads, do you guys think its best to get 1 big one, say a koralia 7 or 8 and put it on back in middle or would you recommend 1 smaller one on each side of the tank example 2 x koralia 3. or do you have better idea :good:

Would 2 x 200w heater be ok or maybe 3 x 100w? what do you reckon?

Ok, my two pennies worth

2 x koralia 2 will give you 4600 litres an hour turn over, which if you are looking for at least x 12 turnover hits you bang on the mark (4560)

If you fancy more flow than go for the 3s which will give you 6300 turn over

Placed at either end of your lovely new tank so the flow meets in the middle, at the front and bounces off the glass

do lions like a strong current? Can't look it up in my fish book as Bigrent is reading it

I would always prefer to go with multiple powerheads. It gives a more radom flow pattern and if one powerhead dies you will still be ok.

They don't like a strong flow, I was looking at something like 15x to 20x flow between 5700l p/h to 7600l p/h

I was rounding up to 400 litres, so it looks like 2 x 3 ks then or maybe 3 x K2 which gives you about 6900 turn over per hour.

Ok so..........
3 x K2 I think I shall go with :good: positioned either side and one on back in middle, so as Barney said, if one breaks I'll still have 2. :D

So heaters, what do you think of these, they come with guard. I would get 2 (as previously recommended by Ski)

Rena is supposed to be good, have had a Visitherm running for nearly three yrs now, very good heater.

Jager are supposed to be good too, I think they are made by Eheim.

Ok decided on........
3 x K2.
2 x Rena SmartHeater.

Right now the biggy. To keep the V2 1200 or get smaller V2 or Deltec  decisions decisions

Well, I suppose the debate comes down to two things:

Is it possible to overskim, does the skimmer only take out the organic, protein based compounds that are within the water column and/or does it strip the water of nutrients required by corals?

Your priority Trod is to have lion fish, messy eaters, large bioload with only a few low light loving corals.

From what I have read you can overskim if you have corals - as overskimming will take out the nutrients required by the corals BUT some disagree!

So my thinking is, over skimming in your situation is just what you want because of the sort of stock you are going to keep

anyway over to the 'advanced' aquarists to sort this one out and hopefully teach us newbies along the way :good:
