magnetic cleaners do this??...... they are on the way to the bin in my house
If you get grit caught between the cleaner and the glass then yes. It's typically a more common problem with a sand substrate.

I once got a little piece of gravel stuck between the magnets...somehow...made the most horrible sound, i thought the tank was going to crack

I just use a sponge now, saves a lot of hassle and doesn't exactly take any longer.

I have not cleaned the front glass in my tank for about 6 months now on my 2 foot Betta tank, Snails and a baby BN take care of that, Same thing for the big 6 footer i look after, However this will change now because the 6 footer has 5 Clown Loaches in it, No snail can survive that for long.

I found out the hard way about magnetic cleaner things and Tahiti Moon Sand on my $120 Aquael 5 gal cube. I now use a plastic card or a nail brush plus i have gravel.
