Hi, im interested in having some sort of surface cover at one end of my tank to shelter the fish from light etc and give them some extra hiding places etc.

I dont have real plants in my tank and am not really sure on which ones i could get hold of that arent a hassle. What other alternatives are there as i cant find any flotaing fake plants. Could i get some floating plastic plants and attach them somehow to the roof of the tank??

any ideas???

Hi,
Some live floating plants include; Riccia fluitans, Salvinia natans, Pistia stratiotes....

Never heard of attaching plastic plants from lid, but suppose it could work. (may get hot if close to Light tube)

you want some water sprite, (Ceratopteris thalictroides)
plastic plants generally float so you can simply drop some in and they should float around the top.
Ambulia, Ludwigia and Hygrophilla polysperma will all grow along the surface or planted in the gravel.

Riccia grows like mad and you can sell it on for a lot too

If you go to pet shops that specialise in reptiles they sell fake floating plants for vivariums which contain water, i use them in my snakehead tank.
