Hi all,

I have a 20 gallon planted tank with a Eheim 2213 for filtration. Currently I have the spray bar (which I drilled additional holes in the back of to slow down and better disperse the water movement) on the back of the aquarium pointing slightly upwards.

I am curious as to whether this would be the best setup for water circulation or if a lily pipe would do a better job...

Also, would a lily pipe create too much flow coming out of the filter?

Thanks in advance!

On my externals I just use the outlet pipe with nothing connected. You can test if the lily pipe will cause too much flow by taking off the sparybar. As far as I know a lily pipe is a nice looking outletpipe.

Is it a straight spraybar? i would say the spraybar because lilypipes are more for looks,

Not strictly true. Better quality lilly pipes do create a good flow, which is something you want in a planted tank, to make sure you get good even nutrient and CO2 distribution. The end, or lilly on better quality ones also causes a surface vortex which helps reduce/prevent survace scum build up.
