I have a 75 i am starting up.
I did the fishless cycle, with ammonia.
I used decor, old bio media and dr.Tims To help cycle the tank
It was clearing 3ppm of ammonia after about 1.5 weeks

The 3ppm was clearing about 3 days before i got the fish.
for 2 days before i was adding 1ppm of ammonia just to feed the bacteria
the night before i did about a 75% water change.

I put about 20 fish (1.5" in length) in yesterday and i noticed the water wasn't as clear.
I checked the parameters and heres what i got
(Api test kit)

Ammonia = .25ppm +or- .05ppm
Nitrite = .05ppm
Nitrate = 2.5ppm

not sure what to do from here. I know .25ppm isnt alot but i still dont like it.

The answer is simple:  Water change.

50%, minimum.    Test again in 12 hours.

You said the ammonia cleared. Did nitrite?

If nitrite was clearing, then you probably added a few more fish than you were dosing for. That's okay. The bacteria will multiply rapidly at this point, so you don't have to worry too much. Just do water changes, keep an eye on the readings. You should be good in about a week.

If a 75 gal tank was clearing 3 ppm of ammonia to nitrate in 24 hours or less, that fish load should not cause any ammonia or nitrite.In fact, that tank should not have had an issue with double that load.

Cloudy water is a separate issue from any cycling questions.

well im new to the whole fishless cycle so i thought thats what it was. But it cleared up yesterday and the fish are active and looking good.

:good: keep a close eye on your ammonia and nitrite for a week or so.
