I have had 2 red clawed crabs in my freshwater tank with an underwater island. One has been spending a lot of time in the island and the other has been hiding tucked into the base o one of the decorations and only venturing out occasionally. This morning I came out and turned on the light to find this "third" crab in the tank between the island and the glass. Both of the crabs are now actively moving around the tank. I am assuming that one of them molted overnight and this is the old shell

My question is...I have just purchased a larger tank to move everyone to and am wondering if I need to wait before transferring them now or is it safe to make the change.

You'll be fine to move your crabs, once the new shell has hardened up, which only takes a day or two, at most (probably less than that, but I'd leave it that long to be on the safe side).

Thank you I am super new to the whole thing and don't want to injure them by moving them too soon when it is so easy to jut wait a day or so.
