just wondered, i bought 3 swordtails 2 female high finned ( i think she called them ) and one male, the male is a slightly different colour to the females just wondered does that matter at all about them breeding? thanks

So long as they are the same species then the colour is just a colour.

You could always post pics for further confirmation if you like.

In general the female livebearers show a preference for a wild colored male over any other color. It is how the wild color developed in the first place. With that said, you will rarely find a swordtail in a pet shop that is anything like a wild type so the female preference is not likely to enter into the equation much.
