Put New Filter In Already Cycled Tank

Alright, i couldn't find pure ammonia, and i tried the fish cycle [didn't ahve the heard to kill them after a day i put them in my other 10 gallon tank--already cycled] So then someone told me i could put my filter in my alrady cycled tank and let the good bacteria build up there...but how can i tell when i can put it in my other tank and it will be ready to have good bacteria to eat the ammonia/nitrites and not suffocate my fish?!?!

Let it run in the mature tank for 3 or 4 weeks and it should be good to go.

i agree about 4 weeks should be OK.

alrigght, thank you very much!so, in the tank that doesn't have a filter...do i have to do anything to it in those 4weeks?
