Hi, I am a fan of plecos.
I have a Gold Spotted Plec, and BristleNose Plec.

Has anyone else ever had A Zebra Plec? I am considering getting one eventually...
I have heard they are notoriously difficult to keep is this true?

Keeping different types of plec in the same tank is also asking for trouble, If you get two males they'll fight to the end.

How do I know how to distinguish between the sexes?

If you google the type of pleco you tend to get comparing pictures between both sexes but am no pleco pro

+1 as above plus if you watch this video you will see the male bristlenose is the one with all the bristles, females don't have them.
