Common Name: Peacock Goby, Peacock Gudgeon

Scientific Name: Tateurndina 0cellicauda

Family: Eleotridae

Origin: Papua New Guinea

Maximum Size: 1"-2.5"

Care: Peacock Gobies can be kept in a small aquarium. The Peacock Gobies favored pH is to be kept around 7.0. Peacock Gobies are not picky in having hard to soft water. They also lack the pelvic suction cup that allows other gobies to cling to glass and gravel.

Feeding: While some have found Peacock Gobies are not picky eaters and will accept frozen foods and/or flakes others find them to be quite fussy and prefer live food but accept wet frozen foods but not flakes.

Sexing: It is usually fairly easy to tell the difference between male and female peacock gobies. Females generally have black edges on their dorsal and anal fins. Males will have yellow edges on their dorsal and anal fins. The most notable difference in male and female is that males have a rounded head, while females have a sort of pointed head.

Breeding: Breeding in the peacock Goby species occurs when there is a cave [which can be things such as small PVC pipe, or a piece of slate leaned upon the side of the aquarium].The male will coax the female into the spawning area. The female will then lay her eggs on a side of the cave present they will then be guarded by the male. Once the eggs hatch the fry can be fed small foods such as daphnia and eventually worked up onto what the adults were eating.

Comments: Peacock Gobies are a wonderful, colorful little fish that is perfect for a small slow-moving community aquarium.
