Hello,

I have a 75 litre fish tank that has 4 neon tetras and 5 platys in 2 female and 3 male. Yesterday i noticed that one of the female platys was just floating in the current of the tank putting in just enough effort to keep stable in the water.on closer inspection i noticed her fins have chunks missing out of them. My first thought was fin rot but i dont notice any swelling ,white marks on /around the fin or any sign of infection. This is thw only fish that is suffering from this problem at the moment

The water qaulity is on point and i do weekly partial water changes to keep the levels good.

I noticed it got dramatically worse over night last night.

I have noticed on a few occasions that one of the male platys will come up next to her and turn her (kinda looks like they are dancing) but she will always swim away rather fast.is there a chance the other platys could be nipping her fins.

I will post a video of the fish and how the other fish act around her with this post ,hope you can help

Kind regards
Jay Morgan

She looks very thin and weak, that's probably why the other fish have targeted her and tore up her fins. I highly suggest you separate her from the other, preferably in another heated and filtered tank but a breeder basket will work.

Has she and the others been eating at all? If looks like she might have internal parasites, seeing as how she is so thin. Do you ever see white stringy poo from her or any of the other fish? Do they all swallow the food or do they just spit it back out?

As for your stocking, you should always have at least 2-3 females for every male platy, as the males will harass the females to no end. Often times people will have a single gender, either all males or all females. This will cut back on picking and stress

The poor girl look pretty far gone, I don't really think she's going to make it much longer, especially if she stays with the others.

I noticed that sometines the neons will spit thier foood out bit i guessed that was becuase the flackes where to big, there poo is a pinky colour at the moment but i was told that is because of the ingredients in the fish food. I have another 20 litre tank but i wont be able to get a heater till friday ,its currently not set.
