So had the water tested - levels are all fine. No ammonia or Nitrate issues. Gave him the pea treatment again tonight. He devoured it like he was starving. He's still feisty, lively, and swimming - it's just that his back end sinks. He also seems to lie on the bottom on his side. I emptied half of the water so he has no trouble coming up for air and I can do water changes instead of using the filter. Can he live happily like this?

No one here seems able (or willing) to help so I'll try another forum.

Sorry about your situation. I'd recommend the forum fishlore as there's a lot of active people on there.

When you are using a filter do you not do water changes? A filter doesn't replace the need for water changes unfortunately. I know you said the readings were fine, but what were the numbers exactly? How high was nitrite nitrate and ammonia?

Your friend's betta might be active now but unless they're performing 100% water changes every single day the fish will be affected by ammonia poisoning in that bowl.
