Hey,

I bought a betta earlier today and put him in my ten gallon tank. He seems really terrified and has been hanging out near the top (aside from a few times where he ventured into the plants) most of the day. Is he okay? Is he just stressed out from the new environment? He came in one of those cups with barely any room in it.

Some tank info:

-Ten gallon
-Has live plants
-Heated
-Has an air pump and bubbles
-Filtered
-Contains three other tetras who are docile and pretty much ignore the betta
-Covered with a lid
-Zero ammonia readings

Thanks!

Give him time to adjust.

What sort of tetras? Bettas are solitary fish and are best kept that way.

Also tetras need to be kept in a group of 6 or more.

Is the tank cycled?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

How long has the tank been set up for?

Do you have any floating plants?
If no, perhaps get some Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides/ cornuta) for the tank.

I have 5 tetra and they do fine

By fine I meant they are happy, eating well, swimming around together.

You know this for a fact?

Bettas and Tetras do not make great tank mates,

I am telling you from years of experience that it most likely wont work.

I was just stating mine coexist well together.

Well if thats the case why are you here asking for help?
