so I have a 3 gallon tank that my rainbow shark has happily lived in for 2 years, but I decided to put a bala shark in with him and now my rainbow Occasionally chases him, but now he just sits at the top floating at an angle, so I guess I was wondering if I need to take him out or if he is sick, ETC.

bala shark is about 4-5 inches, rainbow shark is about 3-4 inches.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Is you tank 3 gallons or did you miss a number?
A 3 gallon tank is too small for bala sharks. They are schooling fish that need to be kept in groups of at least 6 of their own kind and they can reach 10+ inches in length. They need a tank that is at least 4foot long while small and 6ft + when they get bigger.

The fish is probably stressed from being attacked by the rainbow shark, who is territorial and should have any tank mates in that size tank.

If the tank really is 3 gallons and not 30, it is too small for the rainbow shark as well. The only fish suitable for a 3 gallon tank is a single betta.

Rainbow sharks need a tank 120 cm/4 feet long. That's a minimum of 45 gallons.
