I just did a water change and pruned the roots on the water sprite.
 
My pleco up-rooted the tiny water sprite I have in the sorority, I'm getting tired of replanting it so I think I'll just let it float around. Hopefully it will grow to the point of needing its roots trimmed like yours.
 
Got to love plecos. The roots on mine grow 3 or 4 inches a week.

Look at post 66 and 68 it will give you an idea on how fast they grow, and if anybody tells you not to prune the roots ignore them.

I'm not sure I understand Nick's post above... but a word of caution: While trimming the roots of the pleco can have its benefits, it is never a good idea to trim the bristles on your BN pleco. The bristles are not roots!!!
