Is there such a thing, mine has done it twice now, first time i trimmed it off as it looks for all the world like a bad leaf. OOps

When you look at it properly its a modified leaf that forms a tube with a bulbous bottom a little way up from the base. Kind of a ruddy brown.

When you look, it kind of reminds me of one of those carnivorous plants that catch insects.

How it works in water????

Will try and get a picture, if i can remember how, with pbucket going penny pincher on us.

ok, answered my own question i think.

My plant isn't a java fern, shows the worth of the internet. Its actually a Cryptocoryne Balansae, was a gift from a LFS i used to use regularly before he closed down.

Its an absolute monster in the tank, leaves a good 2 foot long and an inch wide. Needs trimming regularly and seems healthier for it.

Oops.
