It Ok To Just Trim Plants, Right?

so i'm doing some heavy tank maintenance on my planted and just wanted to make sure it's ok to trim the plants down

With stem plants I prefer cuting off the upper portion, and replanting it. I usually get rid of the bottom portion.

Crypts, swords, and similar plants I pull off the outside leaves.
