I have always wondered this. I know you use aquarium salt for freshwater tanks and it's beneficial but can you use it for brackish tanks too?

Salt can be very useful as a medication, but should never be used in a normal freshwater set up.

Brackish set ups should have proper marine salt used to make up the salinity, not aquarium 'tonic' salts or table salt, or even the sea salt that's sold for eating. Marine salt only; anything else will have the wrong mix of chemicals.

Rinse the sand anyway. Our town bay and sand is near some former industry discharge and occasionally but rarely have a red tide bloom.
After rinsing sand, add the Marine salt to your water to the correct percentage salinty for your creature(s).
