Hello everyone. I saw this advertisement while browsing through these forums and am quite annoyed that this ad was allowed to be shown on this forum.
As a board that pride ourselves on being knowledgable regarding the humane and proper care of aquarium fish, I find that this ad appears to be endorsed by the administrators shocking.

I understand that advertising is necessary to keep the forums free to use for all but I do think that more care needs to be out in as to what advertisements are shown on the forums.

Not that I'm going to click on that link...but I assume it's advertising a small jar for Betta to be kept in?

If so, I'm in complete agreement with your sentiments on this.

As far as I'm aware, the board has no control over the ads shown [IMG]

Totally agree, it is currently a Kickstarter project. I have written to KS stating it is unethical. Kickstarter is also on social media, so maybe you can say what you think via contacting them, etc.

No living fish, let alone fighting fish should be kept in such a small space as this
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/677502282/aquajar-a-love-story-between-fish-and-plant

This is where I found a way to email KS...

Click on JUST ASK, last paragraph.

The more people who advise that this is cruel, the more we maybe able to make a difference for any fish, let alone the poor old Bettas.

I'm not sure how much control there is about individual ads but I'll check and see if that one can be removed from the ad feed. This should only show up to those not logged in though.

Good to get rid of it that way, and on our end they told me there should be no problem blocking that URL.

Thanks Tcamos. Hopefully the company will heed the warnings they appear to be getting from concerned fish keepers on their Facebook page.

That would be nice. I am not sure why people want to keep fish in jars for anyway. It's a lot more fun to watch them when they have enough room to display proper behavior.

It is a fact that my McAfee anti-virus lists this site as high-risk due to the appearance of inappropriate advertising. I have blocked the warning but it is there in the background nevertheless.

And all warning lists will update in time, the issue was cleaned up. If it does come back let us know.

I hate it when fish stores sell half gallon bowls for their bettas. Bettas are really cool fish, but look so sad in a tiny, cold, unfiltered environment. Its the same thing with goldfish.

I agree with the displaying of that ad. There's no way that a fish should ever be kept in that size container. However, I like the idea of using fish waste to grow plants, but I guess that's why we keep live plants in aquariums, right? [IMG]

I quite often get shouted down when I say a 5 gallon cube is the minimum for a betta, If it was up to me 10 gallon would be minimum by law.

Yes the site needs advertising to pay for costs of a server, but I also think the site needs to be selective and vigilant as to what adds are displayed, Next time it could be an add to an adult size.

    PS.
If every member who was helped or who loves this site donated say 5 or 10 bucks a year to the site there would be no need for advertising.
