I recently had a very bad algae bloom in my tank hair algae infecting everywhere, long green hair algae covering all my java moss, and green spot algae on the sides of the tank, as well as green water.

I purchased phoso-zorb, bio chem zorb from rena and some flourish excel

put the pouches in my rena filter, overdosed on excel the first day and within TWO days all the green hair algae was gone, and the black hair algae had turned red and was dropping off. The spot algae had reduced significantly aswell. The water is crystal clear

so a combination of reducing the phosphates and dosing on excel has worked wonders form myself

the java moss is growing more in the past few days than it has in three weeks

great results, i recommend it to anyone with algae problems.

ive recently added a number of amano shrimp, and these guys are clearing whats left of the hair algae, didnt realise they liked hair algae as much. They seem to be ripping it off :)

So we should all run our planted tanks at zero phosphates?

Dave.

Rena states phos-zorb 'Selectively filters out the algal nutrients, phosphate and silicate', which im sure has contributed to the reduction of algae aswell
