Hi everybody,
I have 5 guppies in a 40 litre heavily planted tank. Sherlock the guppy has a fine layer of white fungus (not sure if it is fungus, its just a guess) around its face (mainly the eyes and mouth). It is white/clear and fluffy looking. I really need help with this just in case it is contagious to my other guppys.

Please any diagnosis or advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

p.s a picture is attached, however it doesn't fully show the extent of the "fungus".

looks like Columnaris, a real nasty bacterial infection that needs treating immediately or you will lose everything in the tank.

If you have a quarantine tank put him in it now and see what your local petshop has for treating Columnaris. You can add a heap of salt to the tank and that might help but there is no guarantee if it is Columnaris.

If you add salt you will need 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt or swimming pool salt for every 20 litres of water.

To work out the volume of water:
multiply length x width x height in cm
divide by 1000
= volume in litres.

when you measure the height, measure from the top of the substrate/ gravel to the top of the water level.
