Goodeid Crossbreeding

Most if not all goodeids are endangered due ot habitat destruction and crossbreeding will weaken the genetic integrity/gene pools of the fish.

The only time where it was acceptable, was when they crossbred skiffia multipunctata and skiffia frenscae to produce the black beauty. That was because they THOUGHT that the person had the last skiffia frenscae in the world and didn't want to lose it's genes. (they probably assumed that because the place where they were found in the first place became a landfill. Same thing happened to endlers which made people whether intentionally or unintentionally crossbreed them with guppies. Endlers have now been found in a different location so now you can still get pure strain endlers, but with hybrids flooding the hobby, you can't be 100% sure unless you do a genetic test.)

If you want to hybrize, stick to mollies/guppies/platys.

It's currently being thought that both skiffia multipunctata and skiffia frenscae may be the same species and wild fish looking like the black beauty have been found in the wild.

How ever this will take many years i bet.

I think there is a lot of confusion beyond just at the hobbyist level with species identification. Why don't they just do some genetic testing to see how closely related these species are?
