Hi

I have two wild caught german blue rams that are stunning! I just wonderd if I could add cherry or amanno shrimp to the tank to keep algae at bay?

Now people are telling me they will see them as food and others not so!

So whats your adise and if not what could I get for algae munching?

And also what other tankmates are suited to them?

Thanks

Need tank size to determine other tank mates :)

Regards the shrimp, amanos full grown would IME be left alone, even adult cherries should be ok, although they might need alot of cover, of course baby cherries will be snacks. Never had wild caught rams though, only tank bred.

Your other options (not knowing tank size) for algae would be Otocinclus, BN plecs, or siamese algae eaters.

rummynose and cardinal tetras (wont do anything for algae though)

I wouldn't risk it with wild caught rams, mine used to pick on the shrimp, and wild caughts tend to get a little bigger than the domesticated stock.

If you want to control algae then don't use livestock, remove the cause and it will go.

Suitable tank mates include cardinal tetras, corydoras, ember tetras, any fish that will appreciate the low PH and high temperature:

make sure your tank is maintained at 28-30oC with a PH of 5-6.5.
