Just clarifying this point. Carbon should be removed when using fish medications or plant fertilisers because it will absorb them. However, after treating fish, you can put carbon back into the filter for a few days to absorb any residual chemicals.

Does this include liquid CO2?

I have been dosing this for my plants but if its being filtered out should I just wait until I loose the carbon?

Thanks!

Nott sure about liquid CO2.

Carbon does not take out CO2 gas and generally has no effect on ammonia or nitrite so it should be fine with liquid CO2.

The solution!

During my research i googled many questions, came to great threads with lots of good information only to find the OP never posted back after all the advice to say how they actually got on after following the tips given! So...

I ended up adding in foam blocks for the FX series.

These are much more dense than the recommended U4 foam inserts and do fit into the plastic cases, its a tight squeeze but this only adds to sifting out the finer particles, I also added a new carbon pad on the back to aid even further.

I have also purchased some filter floss which I will be trialling at some point but am happy with my results with the larger foam pads for now.

Hope that helps anybody "filtering" for good answers on the U4!

See what I did...?
