I was just wondering...when fish die don't they normally become floaters? I just had a bunch of deaths due to heater malfunction, had 1 floater (corycat), 1 tiger barb stuck in a plant, and a few corpses on gravel, plus a bunch of "invisible" corpses (1 harlequin rasbora & 5 neon tetras are where?) Is this normal, or is there something that makes them sink as opposed to float? Was just a bit of a hassle to get the bodies when they are way down on gravel around plants...nice morbid topic for you guys to think about! Heehee...

They will sink first until there stomachs bloat with gases brought on by the decomposition of the fish, then they will float.

As for your missing corpses, if they didn't jump out of the tank (have you looked around), they may very well have been eaten.
