Hi All, New here
I have been wondering why my fish arent the most active, they hardly swim a lot and quite lethargic. I conducted a water test and these are the results
Ammonia : 3.0
Nitrate (NO2) : 0.5
Niitrate (NO3) : 500
GH: 500
KH: 50
pH: 6.8

Could anyone help by telling me what these results mean and what i can do if they are bad.

Hi chris
ammonia NH3b = bad
nitrite NO2 = not good not bad kinda meh
ignore nitrate for now as is not as dangerous as the other 2.

In order to remove ammonia from your aquarium it is best to just perform regular 25% water changes to dilute the ammonia and to give the filter time to break down the ammonia into nitrite and then into nitrate. In this case a larger water change is probably your best bet to help protect your fish.

It may also be worth adding some beneficial bacteria. However that is quite controversial as bacteria products have a very marmite effect in the hobby. some people swear by them whilst others think they are garbage.

hope this helps if you need any other help or would like any more details don't hesitate to ask :)

You need to do a big water change right now at least 70%

What type of fish are they?
How big is the tank?

Ammonia : 3.0
The only safe level is zero.

Nitrate (NO2) : 0.5
The only safe level is zero.

Niitrate (NO3) : 500
500? How did you get this number?
