I have 2 aquariums in one is my 6 year old oscar. The other had a die off years ago of all the fish but one blue gurami. I treated the tank for everything but any other fish i added died. Now hes been alone for years. I tried adding 2 mollies 2 catfish and a betta. The betta is fine but all the other fish passed away. Is there an illness that dosnt affect surface breathers?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

If labyrinth fishes are surviving but other fish are dying, it could be an oxygen issue. Low oxygen levels or high carbon dioxide levels will kill most fish, but some catfish and labyrinth fish (Bettas & Gouramis) can get oxygen from the atmosphere.

It could also be a disease or poor water quality and the gourami was just tough enough to survive.

Did you wash the tank out after the first wipe out?
If not then any diseases could remain and affect new fish. If there is something contaminating the water, it might poison the fish.

Have you got nay pictures of the sick/ dead fish?
What symptoms did they have?
