I'm planning my new discus setup and I want plenty of vegetation above water level. I have already tried pothos in my previous setup and was very happy with it, but I also want to try an umbrella papyrus.

To those that have already tried this plant, how deep in the water have you placed the roots? It is my understanding that it suffers if the stems have to grow through too much water. I'm planning plenty of wood in the tank, so I can tie it on the wood at the correct depth, but I need to know what this depth is.
