So Iā€™ve purchased a Fluval 206 canister, because Iā€™m upgrading from a Fluval u3 internal. Iā€™ve still got the Fluval u3 running alongside the new canister filter, just wondering shall I leave them both running for about 6 weeks then pop the filter media in the canister so I donā€™t crash my cycle? I guess running them alongside will give the canister a bit of time to create some good bacteria?

Thanks in advance

If you already have a cycled filter running, there will be little to no free ammonia to feed a colony in the new filter; also the bacteria cling onto the filter media quite strongly, so there are very few lose in the water column to seed a new colony (that's why it can be so hard to get a new tank cycled in the first place!).

It's much better and easier to just add the old media to the new filter and take the old one out immediately.
