this external filter as a buzing noise on it what can I do to stop it the filter is about 6 months old

When my filters start making noise I take them apart and give the mechanical parts a good cleaning. Be sure you don't use hot/cold water on the media or you will kill the beneficial bacterial and therefore your cycle. Only rinse the media in old tank water.

Without knowing anything about your filter, maybe try and clean out the area where the impeller is?
