Last night while I was sleeping my Salvini Cichlids spawned. Let me give some backstory. I bought these from a previous owner who had just left them in a pond with Oscars and shut them out the way. They have bred in the past and the male will eat the eggs or the fry. The previous owner was not interested in growing out fry so didn't intervene. They've been with me for a month or so and they've finally laid eggs but some are turning white. The male doesn't seem all that interested in staying by the pot however the female is not letting him into it. Just need to know if these are fertilised or not.

the clear ones are alive....the white ones are dead

sometimes i pick the white ones off if i can do so easily without disturbing the other eggs, if you leave them they can kill other eggs they are touching.....i use tweezers

Usually the parents will pick out the bad ones! So better to leave them alone. It is pretty normal that the female will mainly guard the eggs and the male the wider territory. I would not give too much about what others told you about the male eating the eggs. If it is the first time they breed in your tank I would leave them alone and just watch what happens. If it fails, they will breed often. What kind of tank size and other fish?

If you are desperate and/or the male starts eating the eggs you could try to remove the male only.
