So I recently bought an Angelfish from an lfs and it appears to have 3 ventral fins. I thought at first maybe one of them had split making it seem like 3, but there looks to be 3 distinct formations at the base of the fins connecting them to the body.

Is this common-ish? Or my fish just a freak?

Wow, never saw this before. Could be very natural someone will let you know ASAP.

that is not common. could be genetic misformation. my platinum female has only two, but they're kinda angled weird and dont function too well.
get a picture for us please

If it has 3 separate ventral fins then it is a freak caused by inbreeding. Sell it to China, they will pay big dollars for weird mutant fish :)

It's photoshopped :p

No it's not common, as another person said probably a birth defect. Nothing to worry about, it should live a long, and happy life as long as you keep up with your regular tank maintenance. If it is really heavily inbred (like some fish now days) then there is a chance it might be weaker and inbred fish are accompanied by various heath problems :(
