Someone just posted on the Fishless Cycling thread about buying ammonium chloride and whether they could use it to cycle their tank.I had never read anything about it or even heard it mentioned as a cycling alternative to "pure ammonia" or ammonium hydroxide. In doing a quick search, I found this article which I thought was quite interesting. Maybe this is actually a better way to go than bottled ammonia. Some experimentation would definitely be in order.

Good link RDD. I had seen mention of using ammonium chloride before but could never seem to find it when people asked about using it.

Interesting. I can see how starting out at 1.5 to 2 ppm ammonia and spiking it later to achieve full bioload could be helpful. With all these new threads on pH crashes it only makes sense to smart smaller. This should avoid the huge pH swing during the cycle the keeps stalling everyone.
