The axi eggs (pictured above) are starting to hatch now. We will soon be doing the first cull/clean up of the batch.

We are getting there with setting up the area outside for the axi breeding and raising. I have picked up a 5ft 3 tiered stand and 2x 4ft tanks. 1 of the 4fts is home to the female adult axis and the other will be home to the males once it has been resealed. There is also a 3ft tank out there that will be home to larger juvie axis, although it is housing the males at the moment until their tank is ready.

The 1st batch of juvies have now been moved into individual cups, these are sitting on the 5ft stand at the moment. Once the 6ft tank is moved, another stand will be going in to hold the individual containers.

Some pics of the eggs (in above post) so you can see what stage they are at :)

How hard are they to keep?

They are pretty easy, bit more effort required in summer as they dont like higher water temps. They are really a super awesome critter

hey Alasse, do you have any experience with having axies in planted tanks? I would love to have some in the future, might be a future project - but I read that they don't like bright light - so was wondering how ppl grow plants while not stressing out the axies with light. Does that make sense? Thank you!

They definitely dont like bright lights. They are bulldozers also, if they do zoomies around the tank most plants in their way will get pulled out or damaged

You could try low light plants like anubias or java fern. All mine are now kept in bare bottom tanks

So it looks like i will be moving into my own place in the near future....i am very much not looking forward to moving all the tanks lol, but having said that i am looking forward to having a place that i dont have to move from again in any hurry AND that i can sort out a proper fish room at.

So the tanks wont change much from now, as they will all need to be fully pulled down to be moved.....will keep everyone updated as to how things go

good luck Alasse! sounds like you have had a tough year - I hope the new start is a good experience :)

Hope the move goes well! <3

Holy moly this shots are outstanding!!!!!

Update:

Today Hubby and myself bought a house, we take over early November. So really there wont be much happening until we move. All tanks will need to be pulled down to move them so will be simplifying decor in many of them to get ready for the move.

Once setup in the new house, i will be photo happy again and updating the goings on.
