ACFs, Channel Cats, Clown Knifes

hey just a little not to let you guys know we got this month's fish of the month it was the albino clawed frogs. i just printed some info for my customers to read before they buy one.. also got a fish called a neon dwarf rainbow so i am looking for info on that right now.these frogs are the coolest i have ever seen though..

That's great news! I have one, but my other 4 African Clawed Frogs are just the ordinary brown ones.

They make wonderful pets and can live for 15 to 20 years if they are cared for well, I'm going to add the link to the thread in Invertebrates and Amphibians forum in case anyone wants to check them out after seeing this thread:

They are totally aquatic frogs and lots of fun to watch.

Mod's note: For those of you who don't know rabbitlady, let me give you a quick introduction.

She runs an exceptional pet department in one of the Walmart stores in Texas. When the fish in her care became ill with a disease that was rapidly killing them, she came to TFF to learn what to do, and has been working hard to keep the fish that pass through her store safe and healthy ever since.

While I'm sure she will be happy to answer questions about how to improve conditions in your local Walmart stores, I do not want this thread to become another "hate Walmart" thread like the one I closed this afternoon.

thanks so much inchworm. i am so glad that you guys where here i saved most of the fish that time and haven' t had another problem like that again.. i always make sure that everyone who buys from me knows what they are getting and if i don't know details i come in here and return with info for the customers the next day. i also hand out info sheets on fishless cycleing and info on medication for there sick fish and if i dont' know the info i tell them i don't know but i will get back to you as soon as i check my website and i give this this website to check themselves.. if that is what it takes to keep the fish healthy then this is what i do..also would like to let you all know i did train and am still training another pet dept. manager in another one of our texes stores..

Clown knives get to around 3' long and aren't suitable to most people wishing to buy them

Channel cats get big too, and they need brackish or maybe even salt water as they mature.

I don't know too much about their feeding habits or compatibility, but the fact that both would need a very very large tank with possible brackish water should be noted to people who think they are ''Cute little fishies'' in the store.

In other words, niether of those would be a good fish for an unexperienced aquarist who hasn't done their research

I don't know too much about their feeding habits or compatibility, but the fact that both would need a very very large tank with possible brackish water should be noted to people who think they are ''Cute little fishies'' in the store.

In other words, niether of those would be a good fish for an unexperienced aquarist who hasn't done their research

Channel cats are not brackish fish and have no need for salt in their water, they are a North American native species of FW catfish and inhabit lakes and rivers. They can grow to around 4 feet and are not really suited to aquarium life due to their size and coldwater prefference, they should ideally be kept in a outside pond. They are highly predatory and will consume any fish smaller than themselves.

Clown knives also can grow to around 4 feet and are also highly predatory, a huge aquarium is needed to house these fish as full grown adults.

Neither of these species has any place being on the stock lists of a everyday fish store and should only be available to the specialist fishkeeper with extra large tanks or ponds.

well, you guys got to it first. if you want to keep those fish, get a big big house and a big big car, i am a superstar and i dont care who you are sorry, just had to do that. anyways get a big big tank

thanks for all the info .. i am so lucky to have found this forum.
we keep the channel cat in the koi tank and we sell them as pond fish..
i also have the info on there that they get really really big.. and that they are channel (cold water) fish.. i will print the info for them so i can hand those out .. thanks again..

i don't think anyone has to worry about the clown knife fish and my store they aren't doing well.. so i did't order any more of them. but i have to say the channel cats are doing really well. and the frogs are doing great.. these frogs are the coolest of cool we feed them feeder fish today and i have never seen anything like this since my first oscar..
