hi all

one of my plakat boys has lost his appetite, he used to have a mixed diet of pellets bloodworms brine shrimp and live foods with 2 peas a week.
but for the last 3 days he wont eat anything.
for him to turn away from live bloodworm and brine shrimp is a big thing. he does look like he is loseing weight and im worred about it.

is there any tricks to make him eat?

all water is fine nite0 ph 0.7
just scary stuff when one of ya boys wont eat, mybe he has a broken heart after being moved away from his sweetheart.

Could of been something to do with he live foods, only thing i can suggest is an anti internal bacteria med, the live foods could of been infected.

How old is the fish? Does he have any other symptoms?

I wish I could tell you what it is. I have a fish that was the same as yours. He was eating fine one day, and now hasn't eaten for a week. I think he is getting old. but he is also lethargic and doesn't swim much. He also has no outward symptoms of illness.

When fish sometimes don't eat it can be sign of constipation, is hard to give them shelled peas when they are not eating so here is a link.

Not the writer of this information below.

Constipation.

Symptom: A string of feces trails behind the fish, the abdomen swells, the fish has little interest in food, and the fish is sluggish or resting on the bottom. No symptoms of disease is present.

Treatment: Do not feed the fish for two days. Separate it from its tank mates if possible with a glass partition at feeding time. After the two day fast, feed the fish herbivore plant and vegetable foods such as romaine lettuce, algae or green peas (remove skin) for the next two days. After the treatment period, feed a proper and varied diet. If the constipation is severe and this treatment did not work and the fish seems to be stressed, it can be treated with cod liver oil. Net the fish and place it on a clean wet towel. Place two drops of cod liver oil in the mouth of the fish and place the fish back in the main tank. DO NOT KEEP THE FISH OUT OF THE WATER FOR MORE THAN ONE MINUTE. Do not feed the fish for two days after this treatment.

i would look at intestinal worms as well. when feeding live foods these are sometimes introduced in the food. the symptoms are the same for tb. dont know what you would use though to treat them with but its worth a shot.
