Well, some of you may know that I finally got 55 gallon tank last week after looking for one for about 3 months.

So this thread is going to be the progress I make on the 55 gallon, from building the stand, to stocking it with fish.

Here we go!

The stand is about half way done.

Here is my 29 gallon, soaked in tannins.

And this is where the 55 gallon tank is going to go.

I will be moving my 29, and in its place the 55.

You can see the 55 standing on end to the right of the 29.

I will be continuously updating this thread, all the way to the finished product.

Should be about a month!

What do you guys think so far?

Thanks!

The 55 Gallon dwarfs the 29. I thought the same thing when I got mine too. It seemed ENORMOUS! I like what you've done with the stand. I wish I was handy.

Thanks guys for the replies!

I am going to be getting Pink Kissing Gourmais for the 29, the girlfriend wants some. lol

Unless you offer me a good price. ;)

The tank was $60 on craigslist. It was almost brand new.
I have seen other 55 gallon tanks on craigslist go for cheaper.

Well, here is the update so far....

The stand nearing completion.

All I need to do is put sides on it and two front doors that open up and a couple shelves.

I got this 100 pound box of substrate for $7.00!!!! :hyper:

It has some sand, eco-complete floramax and flourite substrate all mixed together.

Then here is another piece of wood I got that I am currently soaking in water to get the tannins out.

its starting to look good and that stand looks real nice its good to see you getting somewhere, as for me im stuck at a crossroad dont know wether to go gless or acrylic for my diy, but anyhoo its looking good cant wait to see the end product.

Thank you!

If I were you I would go with glass, acrylic scratches really easy.

Glass probably will be more expensive but it will provide you with a way better end product!
