petsmart and petco should both carry kuhli loaches at some point, but they may not be in season at the moment. the vast majority of loaches are wild-caught and as such are only available during certain portions of the year. i have a suspicion that kuhlis just went out of season...

what were you thinking of putting them with anyways?

well i have a 10 gallon tank with a few guppies i was gonna put it in with.

i do have another tank with a BGK but i dont knoe if they would be good tankmates so probably gonna go with the guppie tank unless u think it goin with the BGK would be a better idea.

also do u knoe how much about how much a kuhli loach would cost? my friend said he saw one for $20 which i thought was rather expensive...

not with the BGK; can we say spagetti noodles?

unless you're in Australia or another country with tight importation laws, $20 for a kuhli is outrageous. i'd expect to pay at the absolute most $5 for one in the States.

$1.39 for the ones I got a few months ago. 5 of them but they've been out of season all year so I wouldn't expect any to be in stores until the fall.

When you do find them, see if you can get more than one; they do like socialising.

5 or more if possible. They prefer large groups.

I have 5 in my 10gallon and I want to get at least 3 more. They're quite sociable fish and not very territorial so there's more leeway in the number of fish you can keep in a 10g. Depending on how many and how big your other fish are, I'd say 5 is a good number to keep but you'll need sandy substrate and hiding places for them.

50 gallons is an outrageously large tank size for even black kuhlis but at least it's oversizing the tank instead of undersizing it. I've been tempted to buy fish from them before but I haven't yet mostly due to the expensive shipping costs.

that's what i thought too, but i don't think the shipping is too expensive, think about it. u r shipping a live creature to somewhere where it's never been.

True, however I can get them for slightly more money via my LFS than buying them myself. Still, I've had problems with my LFS' supplier lately and haven't been able to get ANY information on the fish I'm wanting to buy so I might end up doing buying them directly myself despite the cost.

How many guppys/other fish do you already have in the tank and how long has it been set up for? khuli loachs need good water quality to stay healthy and wouldn't be suitable for a reletavely newly set up tank...I personally wouldn't suggest anymore than 5 for a 10gallon at the most, even so it would be a bit crampt for them at that...

First off, you should keep them in groups of 4+, so there is no "getting one".

And yes those stores will sometimes carry them.
