hey, i just got a new black ghost knife today, he is about 1 1/4 in and is super cute! im gonna put him in a ten gal by himself until i get a bigger tank, but i was wondering how quickly they grow, and how big they typically get in captivity.

They grow at roughly an inch a month. Your 10g is only going to house it for a month or two at the absolute outside.
20" is the adult size they should reach, so I hope you've got the space and money for a big tank!

What size tank is he in?
What are his tankmates?
Is he definitely getting a reasonable share of the food?
What are you feeding this tank?

Black ghost knifes are really cool. They need huge tanks though.

I've always wanted a ghost knife, but they really do get huge.
Don't they get upwards of 15" or so?

brilliant fish and easy to feed as i nmy experience they are so greedy and end up taking flake pellet and all obvious meaty foods aas well
Quick growers as well and reaonably active at feeding time so it will need more space very quickly
